Role models: A future with female professionals

Fifteen women-friendly businesses in the Emscher-Lippe region were honored for their work in an online ceremony.

Fifteen skilled trades businesses from the Emscher-Lippe region were honored for their women-friendly commitment with the "Hand.Werk.Frau. Zukunft mit Fachfrauen" award in an online ceremony. They train women in predominantly male-dominated professions and have created favorable conditions for female skilled workers in their companies.

"We need to inspire even more women to pursue skilled trades," said Matthias Heidmeier, Managing Director of the West German Chamber of Skilled Crafts Association and the North Rhine-Westphalian State Trade Promotion Agency, in his welcoming address to the award winners. "The award-winning skilled trades businesses demonstrate particularly courageous, flexible, and creative commitment to securing skilled workers, offering women the best training and working conditions." The "Hand.Werk.Frau. Zukunft mit Fachfrauen" award is intended to highlight the exemplary role of these skilled trades businesses and support their employer branding and future skilled trade recruitment.

The award-winning craft businesses in Emscher-Lippe are: Autohaus Bellendorf, Bottrop; Kleinespel & Imping Bakery, Dorsten; Axel Kardell Roofing, Gelsenkirchen; Daniela Terbrack / Crafts and Spatial Design, Gelsenkirchen; Der Ganzmacher, Gladbeck; Lehmann Design Technology, Castrop-Rauxel; the master painters, Gelsenkirchen; Kusserow Electrical, Waltrop; Hohoffs Augenlust & Tafelfreuden, Waltrop; Andrea Schiemenz Hearing Aid, Gelsenkirchen; Carsten Bieler Motor Vehicle Service, Marl; Lehmundo, Recklinghausen; Griese Painting Company, Dorsten; Alfred Frick Medical Supply Store, Castrop-Rauxel; Tenbusch, Gladbeck.

The companies were nominated and selected together with experts from the skilled trades and labor policy sectors. They met at least two of five defined criteria: personnel structure, staff recruitment, retention, and development, working hours and work organization, work-life balance, and a women-friendly culture.

Background and InternetBackground "Hand.Work.Woman. A Future with Women Professionals" was developed by the Emscher-Lippe Competence Center for Women and Work in collaboration with the Recklinghausen Employment Agency, the three district craft associations (Emscher-Lippe-West, Herne, Castrop-Rauxel, and Recklinghausen), the Münster Chamber of Crafts, the Emscher-Lippe Region Regional Agency, Carpenters NRW, and the Vestische Guild of the Automotive Trade. The award was presented to craft businesses in the Emscher-Lippe region for the seventh time.
