With its Handwerkskompass podcast, Isotec aims to strengthen the skilled trades and increase their appeal. The current episode focuses on women in the skilled trades.
According to the Isotec Skilled Trades Compass – a study conducted in cooperation with the German Economic Institute ( IW consult ) – almost one in three young people (29,4 percent) can imagine a career in skilled trades , with men (42,3 percent) seeing a professional future in this field more often than women (22,1 percent). While this sounds promising, it represents a classic attitude-action gap : of the young people surveyed, "only" 9,8 percent are actually working in skilled trades or undertaking vocational training.
With its "Handwerkskompass" (Crafts Compass) podcast, Isotec aims to counteract this trend and attract more people to the skilled trades . The current episode focuses on the role of women in the trades . Host Marcel Kluge , Head of Marketing at Isotec GmbH , discusses this topic with Katja Melder , Managing Director and Construction Manager at BMG Santec GmbH.
According to the Federal Statistical Office ( Destatis ), 10,8 percent of those employed in the skilled trades are women , although the proportion is even lower in the main construction trades. "We women can do it just as well as men," Melder emphasizes, underscoring the need to overcome stereotypes and communicate the diversity of skilled trades more clearly . "It's important that we have the courage and the backbone to follow our path and not let ourselves be deterred ."
"Listen to your own interests and abilities and find a job that fulfills you and that you enjoy ," the construction entrepreneur appeals to all young people. She also emphasizes the great importance of support from networks and organizations that can offer valuable assistance.
