They are courageous, passionate, self-confident, creative, successful, true team players, and simply good at what they do: strong women in the skilled trades. The Dortmund Chamber of Skilled Crafts is launching the campaign "Strong Women. Strong Crafts" to inspire even more young women to enter the skilled trades. Furthermore, the campaign aims to raise awareness among companies about the need to rely more on female support when recruiting skilled workers. The campaign also aims to motivate female apprentices, journeymen, master craftsmen, and managers in the Dortmund Chamber district to network even better, support each other, and engage more actively in the skilled trades.
The kick-off event took place at the Hansemann Education Center and was broadcast live. In the panel discussion, Ina Scharrenbach, Minister for Home Affairs, Local Government, Construction and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as Vice President of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Kerstin Feix and master chimney sweep Julia Bothur, discussed how skilled trades can be made even more attractive for women.
Kick-off with a strong line-up
Minister Ina Scharrenbach: "Women today have better career opportunities in the skilled trades than ever before. Nevertheless, they are traditionally underrepresented in the industry. At the same time, companies need more female trainees to close the skilled labor gap. The Dortmund Chamber of Skilled Crafts is taking the right approach and supporting its member companies in recruiting women into skilled trades. I wish the campaign every success."
Vice President of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts, Kerstin Feix, said: "The skilled trades are colorful and diverse and thrive on the diversity of their employees. That's why we need even more women in businesses, management levels, and the self-governing bodies of the skilled trades who want to set new impulses and help shape them. In over 130 professions, girls and women can receive excellent training, pursue careers as sought-after specialists, establish a business, and pass on their knowledge as trainers. We at the Dortmund Chamber of Skilled Crafts want to encourage and support women in pursuing their careers in the skilled trades."
