Empowering women in the workplace

The "Competence Center for Women and Careers Münsterland" will be established this year at the Münster Chamber of Crafts.

District President Dorothee Feller presented President Hans Hund of the Münster Chamber of Skilled Crafts with a grant award of approximately €756.000. The Chamber will use these funds, in cooperation with the Research Center for Family-Conscious Personnel Policy, to establish a "Competence Center for Women and Careers in Münsterland." "Women often view the same issues from a different perspective, thus enriching every company. This valuable potential must not be overlooked, especially in times of a massive shortage of skilled workers. I believe it is important that the Competence Center is committed to highlighting the advantages of women in business," said District President Feller.

Comprehensive consulting services

The center aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in establishing family- and women-friendly HR policies to make themselves attractive to female trainees and employees. The competence centers advise SMEs on recruiting and retaining female skilled workers, provide tips for better work-life balance, and help develop the potential of women within the company. The center also aims to connect not only businesses but also regional stakeholders, providing them with information and support. Four sub-projects are planned : Changing Perspectives – Transforming Companies, STEM for Girls, creating improved conditions for a better work-life balance for families and caregivers, and establishing a talent pool and raising awareness among prospective and young female academics about SMEs in the Münsterland region.

Three prizes for final projects of designers (HWK)

Background: The project is funded with EUR 336.000 from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Local Government, Construction and Equal Opportunities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and a further EUR 420.000 from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Construction time: It will be implemented between January 1, 2020, and April 30, 2022. A total of 16 competence centers cover all regions of North Rhine-Westphalia.
