The new Dacia Spring: Affordable electric mobility for you
In its new iteration, the Dacia Spring has only retained the name of its predecessor. It has become longer and wider – a tribute to customer wishes.

Affordable, small electric cars? They were and still are scarce. Only a few vehicles remain below the magic €20.000 mark – and that was precisely the most important requirement during the development of the new Dacia Spring . The purchase price was not to be higher, and the engineers succeeded: The compact city car comes in two versions in its new iteration, the Expression and the Journey . The former remains under €18.000 (gross) as a new car , while the more generously equipped Journey stays below €20.000.
Completely redeveloped
Dacia has consistently tailored the new model to customer needs, starting from scratch. "We've only kept the name from the previous model," said chief designer David Durand at the new model's launch in Paris. The Spring shares its battery and platform with the Renault Twingo , but nothing more, Durand assured.
Perhaps the biggest difference is the dimensions. The Spring is six centimeters longer than the Twingo and 18 centimeters longer than the old model . It's also ten centimeters wider. "That was one of the old model's weaknesses; buyers felt it was too narrow." So the designers ensured the new Spring looks significantly more substantial and aggressive . With its long wheelbase of 2,92 meters, it has hardly any rear overhang, while the hood adds length at the front, resulting in a total length of 3,850 meters, a width of 1,740 meters, and a height of 1,52 meters. This keeps it in the A-segment, the city car category, without sacrificing its traditional strength: ample cargo space. The trunk holds 337 liters. Folding down the seats expands the cargo area to 1.283 liters . The interior offers an additional 20 liters of storage space, as well as an 18-liter frunk.
250 kilometers range
A 60 kW motor provides the power . Those who drive it sensibly and economically can travel up to 250 kilometers on the 27,5 kWh battery. According to Dacia, the combined consumption is 12,7 kWh. "That's perfectly adequate," says Durand, referring to data from customers of the previous model. They drive the car an average of four times a day, covering a distance of 34 kilometers. A remarkable 93 percent of all buyers have become first-time electric car owners with their Spring – and that's around 210.000 people since its introduction in 2021.
A single charge is therefore sufficient for the average buyer to drive the Spring for the entire week before it needs to be plugged in again. It can then be charged with up to 50 kW of direct current and takes around 28 minutes to increase the battery level from 10 to 70 percent. Furthermore, it's now possible to draw power from the vehicle itself; thanks to the vehicle-to-load function, any electrical device can be operated or charged using this power . The new Dacia Spring will be available to order from September 15th, with deliveries starting in December, and it will also be arriving in dealerships.
