Volunteer card in Rhineland-Palatinate now available as an app

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the volunteer card is now also available as an app. Volunteers can apply for the card digitally and receive discounts. Mutual recognition of the card with North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Saarland, and Baden-Württemberg is in the planning stages.

Around 1,4 million people in Rhineland-Palatinate volunteer their time. They can receive numerous discounts through the Rhineland-Palatinate Volunteer Card. This card is now also available as an app, called "Ehrenamtskarten-App" in the app stores . "With the app, we're making it even easier to apply for and use the benefits," said Marcus Klein, Minister for Federal and European Affairs, Sport, Volunteering and Media, and Head of the State Chancellery.

With the new app, Rhineland-Palatinate is adopting a solution developed by North Rhine-Westphalia, which has been using it for several years. Nine German states now use the app . The entire application process will now be handled digitally: volunteers fill out the application in the app, organizations confirm it digitally, municipalities review and approve it, and the state office for volunteering and democracy completes the process.

According to the State Chancellery, 147 municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate currently participate in the volunteer card program: This corresponds to a coverage of approximately 90 percent of the state. Cardholders have access to 788 discounts. A total of 15.380 volunteer cards and 4.315 anniversary volunteer cards have been issued to date.

There are 2-for-1 offers (for example, two tickets for the price of one), discounts on admission tickets, and price reductions at participating shops and businesses. The range of offers is constantly being expanded. New additions include the Mosel Adventure Forest climbing park in Traben-Trarbach, the Rock Town bouldering hall in Kaiserslautern, and the Rheinböllen Zoo.
