Bureaucracy: ZVK welcomes simplifications in the automotive trade

The automotive trade welcomes the Federal Council's adoption of the Bureaucracy Reduction Ordinance. The measures enacted therein represent an important step toward increasing efficiency and reducing costs.

The Federal Council has approved the bureaucracy reduction ordinance . The ordinance supplements the Fourth Bureaucracy Reduction Act , which passed the Federal Council in October. It contains 32 legal amendments intended to reduce the burden on businesses by €420 million annually.

The measures aim to promote digitalization , reduce reporting and notification obligations , and simplify procedures. This includes raising reporting thresholds for capital and payment transactions in foreign trade, simplifying food law , and eliminating the requirement for double testing of measuring devices in technical vehicle inspections.

Increased efficiency and reduced costs

The latter measure will provide numerous workshops with financial and operational relief , according to the German Association of the Automotive Trade (ZVK). "This decision was long overdue and significantly relieves the burden on the automotive industry," says ZVK Chairman Detlef Peter Grün . "After more than ten years of campaigning to abolish the double inspection , this decision is an important step towards increasing efficiency and reducing costs."

According to the proposed amendment, a so-called " exemption for use " in the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance will eliminate the annual calibration requirement for pressure gauges. This means that, with the amendment coming into force no later than April 2025, only regular calibration of pressure gauges in accordance with the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations will be required. The German Association of the Automotive Industry (ZDK) estimates that this decision will result in significant annual cost savings for the approximately 3.400 workshops in Germany authorized to conduct safety inspections.
