Rowena Redwanz wins "The Great Bake Off – The Professionals"

Rowena Redwanz, lecturer at the HwK Koblenz and master confectioner, prevailed against the competition as a candidate in the new season on SAT.1.

These TV evenings always make your mouth water: The show " The Great Bake Off The Professionals " has been back on SAT.1 since July 2nd. Among the contestants in the current season was professional pastry chef Rowena Redwanz from Koblenz.

She was awarded " Germany's Best Pastry Chef " in 2022 and crowned Germany's Dessert Queen in the TV show " Lege Comes to Taste " in 2023. For the past three years, the now 28-year-old master baker and pastry chef has worked as a trainer and lecturer at the Koblenz Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HwK).

Rowena Redwanz: Competition victory promotes craftsmanship

She was hardly allowed to reveal anything about the filming beforehand – and of course, not how successful she was. But the final aired on August 6th, and Rowena Redwanz was crowned the winner of this competition as well! It's clear from the interview how much fun she had. She explains that the tasks were very diverse and sometimes presented her with real challenges – not just because of the unfamiliar baking equipment and ovens. "When the time was up, it was over – nothing was staged," she says.

Even as a professional, things sometimes went wrong. "Then I had to improvise," she laughs. At the same time, the contestants were happy to help each other despite the competition. "It was a warm team atmosphere – also with the production crew," she recalls of the long, exciting days of filming. Being in front of the camera hardly bothered her, says the rather reserved Redwanz: "When you're baking, you're so focused that you usually block out the cameras." Looking back, the professional pastry chef also sees her participation and victory "as an opportunity to promote the skilled trades." She is grateful that the Koblenz Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades (HwK Koblenz) granted her leave for the filming period and thus supported a special promotional campaign for the skilled trades.

New rules for baking professionals

"The Great British Bake Off" featured several changes. This time, it aired exclusively during prime time, and the professionals no longer competed in teams but in direct head-to-head duels . A total of eight of the best pastry chefs and confectioners from Germany, Austria, and South Tyrol battled it out. The judging panel was also top-notch, including cake artist Bettina Schliephake-Burchardt , renowned pastry chef Christian Hümbs , and Günther Koerffer, the former pastry chef to the Swedish royal family.

With their experience, an eye for detail, and constructive criticism, they guided the professionals through all the challenges. As usual, the show was hosted by Enie van de Meiklokjes . The winner, Rowena Redwanz, received the Golden Cupcake trophy and a prize of €10.000 . "The Great Bake Off – The Professionals" aired every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. on SAT.1 until August 6th and is still available to stream for free at joyn.de.
