Building cleaners criticize working hours law

The building cleaning trade considers the legal requirement for electronic time recording to be impractical.

The Federal Ministry of Labor has presented a draft of the Working Time Act . The Federal Guild Association of the Building Cleaning Trade criticizes the proposed daily requirement for electronic time recording . They argue that this requirement is not practical in everyday business operations.

"The draft law may be suitable for a factory-gate republic , but not for Germany's largest employer in the skilled trades," says Federal Guild Master Thomas Dietrich . "Our nearly 700.000 employees are on the road nationwide from morning till night, from rural to urban areas, distributed across 100.000 cleaning sites throughout the country."

"Duty impossible to implement"

The cleaning companies worked on behalf of external clients and often in unfamiliar or completely empty buildings. Whether a client agrees to the purchase of a transponder for recording working hours in a gymnasium or warehouse is not the responsibility of the cleaning companies.

"No consideration for practicality"

It is not the role of politicians to prescribe, in a blanket manner , how working hours should be recorded for completely different sectors and companies. Dietrich: "Unfortunately, the draft law takes no account whatsoever of its practicality or of our structures as a decentralized service sector."
