Saarland Monument Preservation Prize launches

Every three years, craftspeople, architects, owners of listed buildings, and journalists can apply for the Saarland Heritage Preservation Prize. The competition has now started for the eleventh time.

The Saarland Chamber of Skilled Crafts , the Saarland State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments , and the Saarland Ministry of Culture jointly award the Saarland Monument Preservation Prize. The competition is now in its eleventh year. The prize recognizes outstanding achievements in monument preservation that contribute to the preservation and further development of Saarland's cultural heritage. It is awarded every three years. Craftspeople, architects, monument owners, journalists, and dedicated individuals who have made a significant contribution to monument preservation in Saarland over the past three years are eligible.

"The preservation of historical monuments uniquely combines tradition, craftsmanship, and sustainability. This prize not only recognizes outstanding craftsmanship but also the dedication of the people who preserve our cultural heritage and simultaneously guide it into the future with innovative solutions. This prize sends a strong signal about the importance of craftsmanship as a bearer of identity, quality, and sustainability in our society," says Chamber President Helmut Zimmer.

The following documents are required for the application:

  • Details of the proposed object, person or group,
  • a brief description (for objects with photos before and after the measure),
  • Information on owners, architects, structural engineers and participating tradespeople.

The deadline for proposals and applications is September 4th. A jury will then evaluate the submitted examples. Proposals and applications can be submitted informally; anyone is eligible to nominate. The prize is endowed with €5.000. In addition, the Saarland Savings Banks Association is awarding a special prize of €1.000. The award ceremony will take place on November 11th at the Saarland Chamber of Skilled Crafts. Detailed information is available at hwk-saarland.de/denkmalpflegepreis.
