Collective leave in Luxembourg: Which jobs must be suspended and when

This year, Luxembourg will also have collective holiday leave. Construction and civil engineering companies, as well as plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) companies, must observe mandatory company holidays during certain weeks.

Construction and plumbing companies operating in Luxembourg must observe the mandatory collective holiday entitlement, i.e., company holidays. This also applies to foreign companies (main contractors and subcontractors) operating in Luxembourg.

For SHK companies, the following dates apply in summer 2025:

Monday, 4 August 2025 (inclusive), to Sunday, 24 August 2025 (inclusive)

• Last working day: Saturday, August 2, 2025
• Resumption of work: Monday, August 25, 2025

Refrigeration and air conditioning companies, i.e. companies that have a business permit as "refrigeration system engineers," are not required to apply collective leave.

Exceptions apply to:

• Breakdown service
• Maintenance
• Repair work (no bathroom renovation!)

The following weeks in 2025 are affected for building construction and civil engineering:

15 working days in summer:

Friday, 25 July 2025 (inclusive), to Sunday, 17 August 2025 (inclusive)

Under certain conditions, companies in the construction industry can apply for an exemption from the mandatory collective leave.
