Visiting climate saviors in the trades

Carrying vouchers worth over 18.000 euros for workwear, Thomas Syring, Managing Director DACH at Fristads, visited the winners of the Klimaretter Award Handwerk 2023.

At the end of October, three companies were awarded the Climate Saver Award for Crafts at the A+A trade fair in Düsseldorf, presented by the German trade journal "Deutsches Handwerksblatt" and the workwear manufacturer Fristads . During a year-end tour in December , Thomas Syring , Managing Director DACH at Fristads, made a point of visiting the winners at their companies to personally present them with the workwear prizes worth €18.000.

The total prize money amounted to €20.000, of which €2.000 was awarded to two honorable mentions . The winners can now choose their preferred workwear from the extensive range offered by the renowned workwear manufacturer. All garments are sustainably produced.

Sustainability concepts in practice

"It was impressive for me to see how the companies have put their sustainability concepts into practice," Syring summarized his impressions. "This confirmed once again that we recognized the right people and how innovative the skilled trades are in terms of sustainability ." On site, Syring was given exclusive tours of the businesses, where the sustainability measures implemented in the craft enterprises were presented and explained.

Stefan Buhren , editor-in-chief of the German trade journal and member of the jury, can only confirm Syring's impression: "We were particularly impressed by the many holistic approaches to sustainability that were clearly evident in the applications."

The first prize went to the Rudolf Meier carpentry workshop from Hövelhof, second place to the Meyer hairdressing salon – simply beautiful – and third place to the Verweyen bakery from Ahaus. A distinguished jury, after lively discussions, selected the three winners from numerous comprehensive submissions, recognizing that these projects not only implemented individual measures but also put comprehensive concepts into practice.

With the Climate Savers Award for Crafts, the German Crafts Journal, in cooperation with Fristads, has created a prize for the first time to recognize craft businesses that practice sustainability within their own company.
