The climate control trades selected their national winners in Kiel. Luca Jan Amzehnhoff from North Rhine-Westphalia won the system mechanics category, while Dennis Gramm from Baden-Württemberg took the title in the plumbing category.
Plumbers and heating/air conditioning (HVAC) technicians competed in the 2023 German Championships in Kiel to determine their national champions . Thirteen state champions in the HVAC trade – including two young women – and six state champions in the plumbing trade competed for the title in the terminal building at the Ostseekai. The 2023 German HVAC Championships were organized by the Schleswig-Holstein Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning Association.
Following an intense day of competition – according to a press release from the German Association for Sanitary, Heating and Air Conditioning (ZVSHK) – HVAC systems mechanic Luca Jan Amzehnhoff ( company: Heinemann Haustechnik, Kirchhundem ) from North Rhine-Westphalia prevailed against his competitors. Paul Schuster ( company: SA-GE-TEC, Panketal ) from Brandenburg took second place . Jan Weiß ( company: Münzer Haustechnik, Schauenstein ) from Bavaria came in third.
Dennis Gramm ( company: Spenglerei Gramm, Dietenheim ) from Baden-Württemberg took first place in the plumbing competition. Moritz Nienstedt (company: DAFA Bau, Markranstädt) from Saxony came in second at the German Plumbing Championships . Lutz Terhart ( company : Terhart Kantbetrieb , Südlohn ) from North Rhine-Westphalia finished third.
Joachim Butz , the ZVSHK board member responsible for training and vocational development , accompanied Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Education, Karin Prien (CDU), on a tour of the competition hall at the start of the German Championships. " The Minister's presence , the large number of spectators , especially from groups of students who traveled specifically for the event, and the exceptionally high level of media interest demonstrate how important the two apprenticeships in the trades we represent have become for our society." He added that these talented young professionals are part of the climate-friendly trades sector, which will make the heating systems and buildings across the country climate-neutral in the coming years.

The tank and apparatus manufacturers, as well as the furnace and air heating system manufacturers, have also determined their national champions. Timo Melz ( company: Pöschl Anlagenbau, Chieming ) from Bavaria was named the best tank and apparatus manufacturer at the 2023 German Championship . Second place went to Jonathan Würth ( company: Raff & Grund, Freiberg am Neckar ) from Baden-Württemberg . Mahdi Rezai ( company: P&S Apparatebau, Hamburg ) from Hamburg completed the winning trio as the third-place national champion.
Only two apprentices competed in the 2023 German Championship for stove and air heating installers . Liam Mechsener ( company: Ofen- und Kaminbau Wolfgang Parnow, Leipzig ) from Saxony won, ahead of Fabian Rehrl (company: Fliesen Rehrl, Freilassing) from Bavaria.
The awards ceremony for the skills competition will take place in Berlin on December 9, 2023. At this event, all winners from the skilled trades will be honored by the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH).
