The energy-saving regulations have been extended until April 15. This applies to the maximum room temperature in public buildings and the lighting of buildings, monuments, and shops. Private swimming pools must also remain cool.
The energy saving regulations for private households, businesses and the public sector will remain in effect until April 15, 2023 : The Federal Council unanimously approved the extension of the corresponding government regulation beyond February 28, 2023 on Friday, February 10.
The energy-saving targets concern the heating of homes and swimming pools , the maximum temperatures in public workplaces (19 degrees Celsius), and the lighting of buildings, monuments, and advertising structures . The ban on heating private swimming pools also remains in effect.
Advertising installations may not be illuminated between 22 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following day. The illumination of public non-residential buildings and listed buildings remains prohibited (except when it serves traffic safety or the prevention of other hazards).
"To avoid an energy supply emergency over the winter, every kilowatt hour saved counts , whether by public institutions, citizens or businesses," the Federal Government explained its decision.

The regulation, which has been in effect since September 1, 2022, was originally scheduled to expire at the end of February 2023. Due to the "continuing need to save gas and energy," the German government has decided to extend its validity by one and a half months. This is intended to further prevent a gas shortage.
This extension – unlike the original regulation – now required the approval of the Federal Council.
