New funding program for electricity storage

At a press conference in a craft business, the Saarland Ministry of Economic Affairs launched a new funding program for electricity storage systems.

With this program, Economics Minister Jürgen Barke aims to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in dealing with rising energy prices and uncertain markets. Over the next three years, the state will provide a total of three million euros for a new funding program for electricity storage systems. The goal is to support SMEs in reducing their energy costs and simultaneously advance the energy transition in Saarland. Funding is available for the purchase and installation of stationary electricity storage systems in conjunction with a newly constructed photovoltaic system connected to the distribution grid. Each project can receive up to 30.600 euros in funding.

Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke stated at a press conference at Elektro Udo Schmidt GmbH in Blieskastel on April 1st: "We are currently witnessing how international crises are significantly driving up energy prices. This has direct consequences, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. In times of rising electricity prices and uncertain markets, an independent energy supply is a clear competitive advantage. The electricity storage program is an effective tool for Saarland businesses to save on electricity costs. Therefore, the program is also a targeted contribution to strengthening economic independence from international crises and volatile energy markets."

Helmut Zimmer, President of the Saarland Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HWK), says about the new program: "Especially given the current energy price situation, it is imperative to use self-generated electricity instead of buying it at high prices. The new storage program is an important building block for making Saarland's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) more resilient and energy independent. We expressly welcome this boost for our craft businesses."

Udo Schmidt, State Guild Master of the Saarland State Guild of Electrical and Information Technology Trades: "The promotion of electricity storage systems sends a strong signal to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Saarland. It combines climate protection with sound economic principles and simultaneously strengthens our electrical contracting businesses as key implementers of the energy transition. The combination of photovoltaics and storage becomes significantly more attractive, generates orders, and secures jobs. Crucially, the program is designed to be unbureaucratic – this is precisely what makes the funding so valuable in practice."

The funding conditions at a glance:

• Funding for SMEs when purchasing and installing a stationary electricity storage system
• Prerequisite: Construction of a new PV system with connection to the distribution network
• Minimum output of the PV system: 5 kWp
• Funding rate: 200 euros per kWh of storage capacity
• Minimum funding: 1.300 euros, maximum funding: 30.600 euros per project
• Storage capacity: maximum 130 percent of PV output (minimum 6,5 kWh)
• Maximum subsidized storage size: 153 kWh
