Second career in the trades

Even later in life, there are many reasons to pursue vocational training in the skilled trades – as in the case of the oldest "new" apprentice in the Koblenz Chamber of Skilled Crafts district.

With Jörg Kuschmierz, the Rönnefarth carpentry workshop in Dernau has gained a very special apprentice. The 56-year-old is the apprentice with the most life experience among all the young tradespeople who recently started their apprenticeships in the Koblenz Chamber of Skilled Crafts district . The retired career soldier previously worked in IT; now, as an aspiring carpenter, he works with wood every day – a profession that has always brought him joy.

During a visit by Michael Ebling , Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister for Economic Affairs, Tourism, Energy and Climate, the apprentice discussed the progress of the reconstruction in the Ahr Valley with Ralf Hellrich, Managing Director of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts , and his boss, Maik Rönnefarth . Kuschmierz will now be part of the skilled trades community, actively contributing to and shaping the future of the region.
