Insights into production: How is a heat pump made?

For 50 years, the family-owned company Stiebel Eltron has been producing heat pumps in Germany. In a video, the manufacturer shows how the environmentally friendly heating system is made.

With 165.000 units sold in the first half of 2026, the heat pump is the best-selling heating appliance in Germany . Stiebel Eltron has been developing and producing heat pumps in Germany for 50 years.

"Especially when it comes to an investment that shapes a house for decades, many people value quality , experience , and long-term reliability ," emphasizes company spokesman Henning Schulz . Accordingly, the fact that development and manufacturing take place in Germany is an important factor for many customers.

New video shows production process

In a new film, the manufacturer of building and system technology presents how the Stiebel Eltron WPL-A Plus heat pump is produced – from the bending of the base plate to the production of various components in Holzminden, the manufacture of plastic parts in the plant in Eschwege, to the assembly of all components in Höxter.

About the WPL-A Plus

The WPL-A Plus belongs to the manufacturer's new wpnext generation . It can supply conventional radiators or underfloor heating systems – whether in new or existing buildings. "It achieves the highest energy efficiency class A+++ and operates with the natural refrigerant propane (R290). At the same time, it is exceptionally quiet and therefore also suitable for densely populated residential areas," the company states. Furthermore, the heat pump can be controlled via an app , combined with photovoltaic systems , and used for cooling in the summer.
