The year 2026 will have three Fridays that fall on the 13th of a month. But does this supposedly unlucky day actually bring bad luck?

Mishaps, black cats, bad luck: The superstitious beliefs surrounding Friday the 13th are numerous. Friday, February 13 , 2026, and Friday, March 13 , have already passed. Furthermore , November 13th also falls on a Friday this year – it couldn't be more unlucky . R+V Insurance has taken a closer look at the true nature of this unlucky day.

The result is: a sigh of relief! Statistically speaking, Friday the 13th is no more dangerous than other weekdays . "In both motor and property insurance, things usually remain quieter on this supposedly unlucky day ," summarizes R+V Insurance.

Small and medium-sized businesses are visiting bank branches less and less frequently.

To reach this conclusion, insurance company statisticians analyzed claims on supposedly unlucky days over the past 20 years . An average of approximately 3.209 claims occurred on Friday the 13th. On "normal" Fridays, there were an average of 194 more claims; on all other weekdays, an average of 276 more claims were recorded. However, the R+V statistics do not address whether this is related to people being particularly cautious on the supposedly unlucky date.
