Qonto Starter: Business account for solo self-employed individuals
Qonto is introducing a free business account as an entry-level model for solo self-employed individuals who expect few transactions and operate their business without cash.
Qonto is a financial management solution aimed at small and medium-sized businesses as well as freelancers. It combines business banking, invoicing, accounting, and expense management.
Just how much a new (Tariff) offer for sole proprietors and freelancers launched on the market: Qonto StarterThe entry-level model offers a business account with a German IBAN, a virtual card, and integrated tools for quotes, invoices, and credit notes.
This option is said to be free and without a contract. Besides the account and the virtual card, it includes... five SEPA transfers per monthAccording to Qonto, accounting software such as Datev, sevdesk, and Lexware Office can be used; additional services would be billed according to usage. Customer support is provided via telephone, chat, and email.
The focus is on a "Pay-as-you-go" approach: Initial access remains free; additional services will be billed according to usage.
Qonto was founded in France in 2017, has been on the German market since 2020 and claims to have 600.000 customers in eight countries.

It's worth comparing:The ideal business account isn't always the cheapest, but rather the one that best suits your user behavior and business model. This includes whether you have a growing business expecting high cash turnover (retail, hairdressers, cafes, etc.) or whether you're a purely digital freelancer with very few transactions. In the latter case, a free digital business account might be suitable to start with.
