From 1 April: wage increase in the construction industry

As of April 1, 2025, wages and salaries for employees in the construction industry increased: by 4,2 percent in the west and by 5,0 percent in the east.

The IG BAU and the employers - the Association of the German Construction Industry and the Central Association of the German Construction Industry - had agreed in spring 2024 after months of wage dispute on a three-stage wage and salary increase for the 930.000 employees in the construction industry.

In the first stage from May 2024 Wages and salaries have already been raised by 1,2 percent in the West and by 2,2 percent in the East. In wage group 1 (simple construction and assembly work), there was a 2,2 percent increase nationwide. For this, an agreement was reached on Fixed amount of 230 euros per month for all Employees informed.

Second stage from 1 April 2025

The second stage will now come on 1 April 2025Wages and salaries will increase by 4,2 percent in the West and 5,0 percent in the East. In the first wage group, the increase will be 5,0 percent nationwide.

The third stage will start on 1 April 2026 an increase of all wage and salary groups by 3,9 percent in the west and an increase of wages and salaries in the east to the level of the western tariff area. This should then also East-West alignment completed .

In the first year of training there is 1.080 euros per month

To increase the attractiveness of training, the remuneration for the first year of training for all apprenticeships will be increased to €1.080 starting May 1, 2024. Increases are also planned for subsequent years of training. Furthermore, the training remuneration for technical and commercial apprenticeships will be brought more in line with that for industrial apprenticeships. Effective April 1, 2026, training remuneration in the west will increase again by 3,9 percent. The east-west alignment will also be implemented for apprentices at that time.

The term is three years from April 1, 2024.
