Signal Iduna achieves another record result
Despite a challenging environment, the insurance company for tradespeople increased its sales result to over 405 million euros.
A first for Torsten Uhlig in Hamburg : The Chairman of the Board of the Signal Iduna Group presented the results for the first time – he had only succeeded his predecessor Ulrich Leitermann in 2025 after the annual press conference and was more than satisfied. "In a persistently challenging market environment, we continued our growth trajectory while simultaneously stabilizing our earnings quality," explained Torsten Uhlig. "2025 was a good financial year for the Signal Iduna Group; our development is exactly on track."
The figures speak for themselves: With annual premiums of €405 million, the insurer surpassed the €400 million mark for the first time, setting another record . Gross written premiums grew by 3,1 percent to €7,2 billion, compared to claims expenses of €6,25 billion. This figure was slightly lower than in 2024, but still exceeds the target of €6,14 billion set out in the "Momentum 2030" strategy.
Promote personal responsibility
At the same time, Uhlig used the press conference to call for more measures, particularly from politicians, to strengthen personal responsibility . "The state should set the framework, but leave room for private solidarity groups to promote personal responsibility," he said, contradicting mandatory state solutions . He cited company pension schemes, natural hazard insurance, and the healthcare system as examples, calling mandatory insurance "the wrong approach." He argued that mandatory company pension schemes, for instance, eliminate the flexibility for individual, tailored solutions, while for natural hazard insurance, he advocated for a mandatory opt-out model. Regarding the pension reform, Uhlig believes his company is well-positioned : "Our sales force is ready when the reform comes into effect on January 1, 2027."
At Signal Iduna, net investment income of €1,55 billion was slightly below the previous year's level. Investments and assets under management increased from €109 billion to €113,9 billion. The number of employees remained stable at just over 11.000. Uhlig is pleased that the AI rollout was successful last year . Signal Iduna pioneered the widespread implementation of Gemini Enterprise (internally known as "CoSi"). With high user acceptance and the use of agents, Signal Iduna is optimizing processes and achieving efficiency gains . The strategic partnership with Google is a key advantage in this regard.
The outlook for the current year also looks good: In the first year, contribution revenues already increased significantly and amounted to 2,41 billion euros – an increase of 7,6 percent compared to the previous year.
