Prize for Crafts History: Science in Focus

The German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) is once again awarding a prize for the history of skilled crafts: for the first time, for academic research on the topic of skilled crafts. The application deadline is June 16, 2027.

For the third time, following 2024 and 2026, the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) will award the Prize for the History of Skilled Crafts. The award ceremony will take place in 2028 at the House of German Skilled Crafts in Berlin. The application deadline is June 16, 2027. For the first time, the prize will also be awarded for scientific research . The prize is endowed with a total of €10.000 , which can be divided among several recipients, the ZDH reports.

Applications can be submitted by, for example, (junior) scientists, museums, archives, as well as historical, economic, social or similar research institutions, networks and their partner organizations.

There is no limit to the range of projects that can be submitted for the prize for scientific research. However, projects must be completed.

➡️ Conservation projects: Securing or restoring sources, exhibits, documentation of intangible information / experimental archaeology / ethnographic fieldwork

➡️ Development projects: Cataloging, digitizing, or providing access to sources or exhibits

➡️ Outreach projects: Exhibitions, publications, digital formats with a scientific approach, or projects that convey and pass on craft-related intangible cultural heritage

The prize will be awarded every two years, alternating between the two starting in 2028.

2028: Prize for scientific research (endowed).

2030: Prize for Historical Communication (unendowed).

2032: Prize for scientific research (endowed).

2034: Prize for Historical Communication (unendowed).
