The i-Kfz app can now also be used by companies.

Car dealers, workshops, and fleet operators can now use the i-Kfz app to provide vehicle registration documents for new registrations. A digital driver's license is expected to be available in the app by the end of 2026.

The i-Kfz app is now also available for business use, according to the Federal Ministry of Transport. Vehicle owners have been able to manage their vehicle registration documents via the i-Kfz app on their smartphones since November 2025. However, adding the vehicle registration document was previously a separate process. so far only via the eID function of the identity card is possible.

What's new is that the vehicle registration certificate is now also available during digital registration. Transfer via QR code to the app "The QR code is automatically generated at the end of a digital registration process via the relevant i-Kfz portals," the ministry stated.

Generating a QR code makes using the app even more flexible – especially for Companies, craft businesses, service providers and fleet operatorsYou can now provide digital vehicle registration documents in the app for new vehicle registrations. Employees do not need access to eID data for this. 

The Ministry of Transport also emphasizes that the i-Kfz app is the first officially barrier-free app in Germany.

Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder says: "The digital vehicle registration certificate via QR code instead of eID data opens up new possibilities, especially for companies: Managing multiple vehicle registration certificates for multiple drivers is significantly easier. I am also particularly pleased that the app is fully certified as accessible. This means it is easy and intuitive to use – an important step towards making it easier for everyone to access essential mobility documents."

Richard Damm, President of the Federal Motor Transport Authority, emphasizes: "The use of QR codes simplifies the transfer of registration data for companies, fleet operators, and all vehicle owners, making it uncomplicated and eliminating the need for centralized ID card data. This increases user-friendliness, and at the same time, with this barrier-free solution, we are strengthening Germany's digital infrastructure and making an important contribution to modern, sustainable mobility for all."

Information about the i-Kfz app The i-Kfz app is free to download and use. The digital vehicle registration document is accepted by the police just like the paper version. The app also displays the date of the next mandatory vehicle inspection (TÜV). The i-Kfz app can be found in... Play Store or by App Store .
