Meyer Bakery: Trainees take over branch

Trainees from the Meyer bakery in Heidebäckerei will independently manage the branch in the Wolfsburg City Gallery for one week. The focus: diversity, practical experience, and responsibility.

For one week, the responsibility lies with the trainees : From April 23 to 29, 2026, trainees from the Heidebäckerei Meyer bakery will take over the branch in the City-Galerie Wolfsburg shopping center . During this so-called "trainee takeover," they will run the branch independently – from product development and staff scheduling to social media communication.

Motto 2026: Around the World

Currently, the Meyer bakery in Heide employs 85 apprentices across three years of training in sales, baking, confectionery, and administration . During the promotional week, apprentices from all departments are working together: eight from sales, four from confectionery, several from the bakery, and, for the first time, one from administration. Another new feature is that, for the first time, a first-year sales apprentice will be managing the branch.

The motto of this year's campaign week is " Around the World ." At the Meyer bakery in Heide, people from 42 different nations work together. This diversity is also reflected in the promotional products developed jointly by the trainees, bakery staff, and confectionery employees. Training manager Franziska Breihan emphasizes: " Our trainees contribute their own ideas, cultural backgrounds, and perspectives. This results in creative products and campaigns ."

Insights into all operational areas

The aim of the project is to give trainees a comprehensive insight into the activities of their colleagues and to delegate specific responsibilities . The sales trainees take on tasks such as creating work schedules, coordinating merchandise orders, and planning social media posts.

Trainees in production each spend a day in the branch to learn about daily sales operations. The administrative trainee is responsible, among other things, for coordinating deliveries between the bakery and the branch.

The action week deliberately kicks off on April 23rd – Future Day ( Girls' Day , Boys' Day ) for stereotype-free career orientation for students. On this day, around 70 students will have the opportunity to explore various professions within the baking trade . Training manager Franziska Breihan explains: "We are always happy to welcome young people who are curious about our professions." Applications for apprenticeships are accepted at any time.

A special highlight is the children's activity on April 25th . Children aged three to ten can bake and decorate cookies together on the theme "Around the World." At the same time, apprentices from the bakery and confectionery will present their daily training . Additionally, on the afternoon of April 24th, the confectionery apprentices will present their professions, and on the morning of April 29th, the bakery apprentices will do the same . Fresh pavlovas with various toppings will also be available daily, made to order.

Past successes and sustainable impact

The first trainee robbery took place in Wendeburg in 2024, followed by Meine in 2025 for the company's 100th anniversary under the motto "Time Travel." Both events were very well received by customers. It is noteworthy that all participants to date have remained with the company after completing their apprenticeships.

Franziska Breihan emphasizes: "The week demands a lot of courage and responsibility – but it greatly strengthens the self-confidence and identification of the trainees with the company."
