Autonomous driving: Komzet Hennickendorf trains specialists

Autonomous driving has long since begun in the workshop: The Komzet Hennickendorf provides trainees and specialists with the necessary knowledge about networked vehicle systems, sensors and modern data communication.

Under the umbrella of the Hennickendorf vocational training center of the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Skilled Crafts, a pilot project, the Automotive Competence Center (Komzet), has been established, which is unique in the training sector. Here, instructors, trainees, and young professionals are equipped with all the skills required for autonomous driving.

Autonomous driving: Current developments in the skilled trades

Anyone who thinks autonomous driving isn't a current topic is mistaken. Even today's vehicle generations integrate numerous functions that pave the way for fully autonomous driving in the future . These include acceleration and braking functions supported by the vehicle's cruise control, and parking assistants that help the driver with steering, acceleration, and braking when maneuvering into a parking space. Many vehicles can already almost completely take over driving tasks in certain situations, such as automatic platooning in highway traffic jams.

Trainees and established professionals alike take a wealth of additional skills back to their companies from the training courses in Hennickendorf – from experience in faster troubleshooting of networked vehicle systems and enhanced repair capabilities related to ADAS, sensors, and communication faults to improved customer communication . Employees trained at Komzet will be able to explain causes and solutions more clearly and comprehensibly. The modern modules on the curriculum include the fundamentals and practical applications of automotive Ethernet, system understanding and the functional logic of autonomous driving, CAN XL as the future of data communication, and issues related to sensors and data pathways in vehicles.

Future-proof training for automotive professionals

Paul Ulrich , Komzet project manager, succinctly summarizes the goal of the training in Hennickendorf: "Since mobility is undergoing a transformation, we want to prepare young people for the future." For which employees in automotive workshops are the courses particularly suitable? For those in the areas of diagnostics/mechatronics, workshop management, and service/reception.

René Gerasch, operations manager of F/G/M Mettchen Müller GmbH in Erkner, has already sent his first trainees to the competence center. His experiences have been consistently positive: "The demands placed on us are becoming more complex. Developments in automated driver assistance systems are progressing at breakneck speed. Anyone who wants to remain competitive has to pursue further training. This is precisely where the competence center in Hennickendorf supports us."
