Mobile workshop for the highest demands

When more than a dozen Land Rover Discovery Sport vehicles travel to the manufacturer's Experience Tour in Australia's Northern Territory on October 17, they will be accompanied by a Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6.

Australia's Northern Territory is synonymous with pure adventure. Deserts and the 1600-kilometer coastline create a diverse climate with intense heat and tropical monsoons—perfect for embarking on a long journey in truly off-road vehicles. Just like Land Rover will be doing again with its Experience Tour starting October 17. After two years of preparation, more than a dozen Land Rover Discovery Sports will traverse endless bush and desert landscapes, far from roads and civilization.

The tour vehicles are accompanied by a desert- and off-road-capable expedition truck. The box body, specially designed by the Land Rover Experience organizers, with an integrated equipment depot and emergency medical station, is carried by a 450 hp Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6, which will make its way over hill and dale, through deserts and rivers just like the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The components of the lightweight aluminum vehicle interior accommodate food, kitchen equipment, emergency medical supplies, as well as the extensive tools and spare parts for the new Discovery Sport—exactly what is needed for such an adventure.

Fully equipped, the Arocs weighs a whopping 20 tonnes. For survival equipment for the technical and The life-threatening expedition into the Australian outback includes, among other things, 400 liters of fresh water, additional tanks for external fuel supply, a freezer, a refrigerator, awnings, power generators, rescue equipment, spare parts, tools and spare tires.

Storing particularly long tools

But that's not all. The Swabian specialist Aluca has constructed a mobile workshop for the Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6. Here are some examples of what it includes: A 144-centimeter-deep Aluca drawer (with finger protection) is ideal for storing particularly long tools like torque wrenches. The mobile Aluca L-boxes offer plenty of space for small parts and spare parts. They rest securely on the extendable case shelves. The high-quality plastic boxes, some of which are equipped with grid or molded foam, hold expensive and delicate tools or spare parts. According to the manufacturer, the boxes can be easily removed and transported to the required location.

Space utilization and ergonomics

To store the large quantities of material in a space-saving manner, but also to have it quickly and easily under control at any time, Roberts, as a partner of Aluca, implemented a space-saving Aluca storage concept in the style of movable filing cabinets. "Thanks to their movable nature, the permanently installed ALUCA cabinets are easy to access," commented the Chief organizer and director of the Land Rover Experience Center, Dag Rogge, raves about the "perfect use of space and ergonomics." In addition to shelves, the interior of the Arocs is dominated by a multitude of different drawers, each with a load capacity of up to 80 kilograms, in which heavy machinery and tools can be safely and space-savingly stowed.

Aluca Marketing Director Claudius Boos emphasizes why the company was the perfect supplier: "Ultimately, several factors were decisive: the enormous weight advantage of aluminum, the high stability of the Aluca system, the highly customizable solution for the customer, and the short implementation time. Our crash-tested aluminum interior system safely absorbs the twisting and shock loads that often occur in off-road use."
