Driving report: Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer

Following its facelift, the Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer has now received the eATS electric drive system from the EQV, giving it more power.

It's great when you can choose from a modular system and select the parts that suit you best. That's precisely what Mercedes-Benz has done. For the eVito, Mercedes-Benz drew on its own all-electric MPV. The result: Instead of the previous 41,4 kWh, the electric Vito will now have a 100 kWh gross battery, enabling DC fast charging. More power also means a greater range. This has increased significantly from 186 to 421 kilometers according to the NEDC standard. Two compelling arguments for the electric minibus. Following the electric Sprinter and the eVito Transporter presented two years ago, the eVito Tourer is another all-electric van version from Stuttgart. The electrification of vans bearing the three-pointed star is clearly progressing. And the eVito Tourer is making equally good strides.

A lot of power

Its peak output is 150 kW / 204 hp , with a continuous output of 70 kW / 95 hp. As with all electric vehicles, the maximum torque of 362 Newton meters is available from a standstill – silently. Externally, the e-Vito differs from the combustion engine versions only by the charging port located in the front fender. The electric motor, the fixed-ratio transmission, the cooling system, and the electronics form a compact unit.

The eVito also charges its battery while driving. This is done through recuperation, meaning that the mechanical rotational movement during coasting or braking is converted into electrical energy and used to charge the high-voltage battery. The driver can influence the level of recuperation using paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The eVito offers three driving programs , allowing the driver to choose between maximum comfort and maximum range . In the D-Auto driving program, the Distronic system, available for the first time in the Vito, provides data on the current driving situation, which assists with energy recuperation and predictive driving.

Charging is a crucial aspect of everyday life with an electric vehicle. The eVito Tourer uses a water-cooled AC on-board charger (OBL) with a capacity of 11 kW. This allows for charging via alternating current (AC) overnight in a home garage (the battery is fully charged in ten hours) or at public charging stations. Using direct current (DC), the eVito Tourer can be recharged at a DC fast-charging station with a maximum charging capacity of 110 kW . The battery should be able to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in three-quarters of an hour.

Flexible use at 160 km/h top speed

The e-bus has a top speed of 140 km/h, with an optional upgrade to 160 km/h. Thanks to the underbody- mounted lithium-ion battery, the front-wheel-drive eVito Tourer boasts excellent road handling. The interior remains fully available for transporting goods or passengers . This locally emission-free van comes in two lengths: 514 centimeters and an extra-long version at 537 centimeters. Eight seats are standard, with a ninth seat available at an additional cost. The seats can be flexibly combined, and various configurations allow for options such as face-to-face seating. This makes the vehicle suitable for larger families, as a shuttle for hotels or restaurants, as a large taxi, or for use in ride-sharing services. In its extra-long version, the e-Vito Tourer offers a payload of up to approximately 800 kilos, with a permissible total weight of 3,5 tons.

The eVito Tourer, manufactured in Vitoria, northern Spain, is now available to order, starting at €53.990 net for the 514 cm long version . The extra-long variant, measuring 537 cm, starts at €55.982 net . The purchase price includes a four-year maintenance package and a Mercedes-Benz battery certificate valid for 160.000 kilometers or eight years.
