The Fiat Doblò Cargo impresses
Fiat Professional, the Italian company's commercial vehicle division, has given the Doblò Cargo a near-complete facelift as part of its model update. The result is a practical yet elegant commercial vehicle that's extremely economical.
No, it shouldn’t have been any bigger: There is no version with a long wheelbase and high roof, because the Doblò Cargo This would have already rivaled the standard version of the Scudo with its short wheelbase and standard roof. However, Fiat Professional positioned the facelift perfectly between the small Fiorino and the Scudo – and delivered a convincing result.
Facelift is not a very short term: 97 percent of all parts are new in the latest generation of the Dobloò, as Fiat Germany CEO Andreas Serra emphasized at the presentation. Seven body styles are available, including new flat-bottom chassis versions with both short and long wheelbases. Combined with the various body styles and engines, 400 variants are available.
Craftsman version at car level
Fiat Professional, Number three in the German commercial vehicle market and number one among importers, has made every effort to elevate the craftsman version to passenger car level. Were it not for the somewhat spartan, typically simple dashboard, you wouldn't notice any difference in the cockpit. Elegant seats with a chic design also make the commercial vehicle variant look elegantOn the outside, the Doblò Cargo has become a bit more bulky and appears wider than it actually is.
More important, however, is what it can do. "Highest efficiency in its class and at the same time the most economical car in its category," promises Serra. Product manager Florian Zimmermann draws a comparison between the new Doblò Cargo as a short panel van with the 1,3-liter diesel engine and 90 hp and the best competitor with a 1,5-liter diesel engine and 85 hp. The Italians sent 50 packages, each weighing 100 kilograms, on a journey of 100 kilometers. The competitor needed six trips instead of just one like the new Doblò Cargo. And due to the competitor's higher consumption of 5,2 liters of diesel compared to the Fiat's 4,8 liters, the result was a 23 percent higher efficiency, explained Zimmermann.
The Doblò can carry up to one ton of payload
How economical the car is can be seen from the technical data. Up to one tonne payload The Doblò Cargo can accommodate 4,6 cubic meters of cargo space in the largest version with the long wheelbase and the passenger seat folded down. With the passenger seat folded down, the cargo space can accommodate 4,2 cubic meters. With the seat folded down, the cargo space length increases to 3,40 meters.
In addition, there are modern engines, one petrol and three turbodiesels. The smallest unit is the aforementioned 1,3-liter turbodiesel with 66 kW/90 hp, which offers 200 Newton meters of torque and works with a second-generation common-rail direct injection system. In the short box version, the Doblò Cargo needs just 4,8 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers and emits 129 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The 1,6-liter turbodiesel engine is available for the station wagon with 74 kW/100 hp and for the station wagon with 77 kW/105 hp. The benchmark figures are 5,2 liters of fuel consumption and 137 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
All engines have Euro4 as standard, for an additional charge of 750 euros (excluding VAT) the units are modified and receive an automatic start-stop system, which raises the Doblò to Euro5 levelThis is standard on the large two-liter diesel with 99 kW/135 hp. The fuel consumption of the most powerful diesel is 5,3 liters, and emissions are 142 g/km. Those who don't like diesel can opt for a 1,4-liter petrol engine with 70 kW/95 hp.
On the road, all engines prove their worth; at half the payload, even the smallest engine is sufficient for rapid progress. Above all, the Doblo has good roadholding and proves to be really comfortable, which is due in no small part to the newly developed chassis. Fiat is the first on the market to equip its van with a fully independent suspension: a McPherson axle at the front, and a modern multi-link rear axle at the rear. cheapest version as a panel van with a short wheelbase and the 1,4-liter petrol engine The new Dobló Cargo costs 12.700 euros (excluding VAT)
