Citroën: Active City Brake and low fuel consumption

Citroën has further developed the DS 3 and DS 3 Cabriolet, introducing new technologies and engines. The French company aims to continue the model's success story.

It sounds a bit like marketing jargon, but Citroën isn't entirely wrong in its assessment of the DS 3's significance: As the first DS model, the DS 3 set new standards. Its design, dynamics, and customization options have made it an automotive icon, with nearly 300.000 units sold since its launch and a 66 percent market share.

Now the French car manufacturer has further developed the DS 3 and the DS 3 Cabrio and is introducing, among other things, a new light signature, the “Active City Brake” technology, new Engines that meet the Euro 6 emissions standard and new personalization options are also available.

The DS 3 and DS 3 Cabriolet feature new headlights that, in a world first, combine LED and xenon technology with new direction indicators and running lights. These new headlights give the DS 3 even more powerful and improved visibility, offering exceptional lighting characteristics in both low and high beam. The combined use of three LED modules and one xenon module creates a powerful, wide, and even illumination, ensuring better visibility and greater comfort in the dark. The new "gaze" enables a 35 percent and 75 percent reduction in energy consumption for the low and high beams, respectively. Furthermore, with a standard service life of 20.000 hours, the LED lights last 20 times longer than halogen bulbs.

Personalization options

To ensure the DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio remain unique and enhance their appeal, new customization options are being introduced. For example, the DS 3 is being refreshed with a new laser-engraved dashboard decor and a screen-printed rear side window. These innovative processes feature a motif that nods to the DS's Parisian origins. Called "Irrésistible Paris," the customization adds a touch of Parisian architecture with its nods to iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.

New powerful and efficient engines

The DS 3 has received new petrol and diesel engines that already comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard, according to the company. The diesel engines are the BlueHDi 120 and the BlueHDi 100: the BlueHDi 100 with a fuel consumption of three liters and CO2 emissions of 79 grams per kilometer according to the factory specifications, and the BlueHDi 120, which emits 94 grams of CO2 per kilometer at 3,6 liters per 100 kilometers. As a petrol engine, the DS 3 retains the "Racing" engine with 207 hp and the THP 155 in its range, which speak for themselves due to their pulling power and elasticity, especially at low revs. Furthermore, the DS 3 is equipped with the The e-VTi 82 ETG engine from the PureTech family, which complies with the Euro 6 emissions standard, is available. This engine is both economical (combined fuel consumption of 4,1 liters/100 km) and environmentally friendly (95 grams per kilometer of CO2). It is offered with the electronically controlled ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). This 5-speed transmission features a creep function and optimized accelerator mapping, allowing for better control for smooth acceleration.

The DS 3 and DS 3 Cabriolet introduce the PSA Group's new emergency braking technology. This automatic braking system, called "Active City Brake," helps avoid low-speed collisions. A laser sensor located at the top of the windshield detects vehicles traveling in the same direction of traffic or stationary vehicles in front of it. If the vehicle in question is traveling at less than 30 km/h, the sensor automatically applies the brakes to prevent the collision. The DS 3 and DS 3 Cabriolet can also be equipped with a rearview camera connected to the eMyWay navigation system to facilitate everyday driving maneuvers.
