The new Peugeot 408 combines elegant design with modern powertrains and focuses on efficiency, connectivity and comfort.
The Peugeot 408 looks stylish, its striking green immediately catching the eye. Called Flare Green, it lends the fastback an extra touch of elegance and is also the color the Stellantis brand uses to promote the vehicle in its brochures. After all, it conjures up further nuances of color in the sunlight. We're standing in front of the main building, looking at the models we're about to test drive. With the new 408, Peugeot is sending a truly beautiful contender into the fiercely competitive C-segment . Undeniably, this model is a head-turner, even in the dark. That's because it's the brand's first vehicle where both the "Peugeot" lettering on the rear and the emblem on the front are illuminated.
The powertrain portfolio includes electric and electrified drive variants, including a fully electric version (E-408), plug-in hybrid, gasoline engines, and mild hybrids . The E-408 offers 157 kW / 213 hp and a combined range of up to 456 kilometers according to WLTP.
Let's start with the dimensions. The new 408 is 4,687 meters long, 1,859 meters wide, and 1.495 meters high . The wheelbase of 2,787 meters translates primarily to one thing: plenty of interior space. The cargo area offers a volume of 468 liters . With the rear seats folded down, this expands to 1.542 liters.
Inside, a digital instrument cluster with 3D graphics is used. New materials, individually customizable operating systems ("i-Toggles"), and adjustable ambient lighting (standard from the GT trim level) create a modern feel. The compact steering wheel enhances agility, while the familiar i-Cockpit provides improved driving ergonomics. Electronic driver assistance systems include the usual driver monitoring systems, various driver assistance systems, and an optional premium hi-fi system from Focal. Digital connectivity includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and full integration with the Peugeot Connect system . Updates are delivered wirelessly. Comfort and safety features are accessible via a dedicated app.

We take a seat in the 408, this time the hybrid version 145 e-DSC6, which offers a total output of 107 kW/145 hp with a torque of 230 Newton meters and is available from a base price of €34.428,57 (net) . The car accelerates briskly and demonstrates its best, most comfortable performance on the road. It's supposed to consume around five liters per 100 kilometers , which of course doesn't apply if you're pushing its performance to the limit and driving up to its top speed of 205 km/h . Those who want to go faster should opt for the plug-in hybrid 240 e-DSC7, which starts at €40.000 (net). This offers 176 kW/240 hp and a top speed of up to 233 km/h . If you only use electric mode, you can manage just 135 km/h.
The electric model also has a top speed limited to 160 km/h. However, it also offers new features such as battery preheating, optimized charging management, vehicle-to-load (V2LOD), and Plug & Charge (available from the end of 2026). The new "80 percent charge reserve" function is also a nice touch. It's available when charging with AC power and is designed to adjust the battery charge level to daily usage .
