EU subcontracting: ZDB welcomes freedom of contract
The European Parliament has adopted an own-initiative report on subcontracting. According to the report, subcontracting should not be restricted. The construction industry welcomes this.
One now from European Parliament According to the adopted initiative report on subcontracting, there should be no restrictions on subcontracting and also no continuous liability of the general contractor along the entire contract chain. As part of its advocacy efforts, the Central Association of the German Construction Industry (ZDB) for this together with the European Construction Association deployed and took a stand against blanket restrictions.
The European Parliament's decision is therefore positive news for the German Construction Industry Association (ZDB): "This sends an important signal to the European Commission: there is no need for sweeping regulations," explains ZDB Managing Director Felix Pakleppa. "This is crucial for the competitiveness of the construction industry, as subcontracting is essential for small and medium-sized enterprises to manage peak workloads. We are counting on the European Commission to respect the Parliament's position and refrain from excessive regulation."
