Thuringia election: "Uncertainty is poison for the economy"

State elections in Thuringia: The skilled trades sector is observing the strong increase in votes for a "clearly right-wing extremist and xenophobic" party with great concern. They say this is making it difficult for companies to attract qualified foreign workers.

"The election result gives cause for great concern about social cohesion, political stability and above all the ability to act politically, first in Thuringia, but also at the federal level," said Hans Peter Wollseifer , President of the Central Association of German Crafts ( ZDH ), in response to the state election in Thuringia.

In view of the increasing popularity of populists, nationalists, and protectionists, the federal government now has an obligation to continue to assume responsibility "and to pursue a wise policy that addresses people's concerns," Wollseifer said.

Wollseifer: "Uncertainty about what's to come is always poison for the economy and our companies." The fact that the majority of Thuringians voted for parties on the fringes of the political spectrum is in no way beneficial for Germany as a business location.

"The fact that almost one in four votes in Thuringia went to a party that is quite obviously right-wing extremist and xenophobic in this state association is contrary to our efforts and those of the federal government to attract qualified foreign workers to work in Germany in the future in order to secure skilled workers and thus prosperity."
