Roofers oppose restrictions on the expansion of renewable energies

The roofing trade criticizes the restrictions planned by the federal government for the expansion of renewable energies. Politicians must not hinder the energy transition.

The Central Association of the German Roofing Trade (ZVDH) clearly positions itself against the [unclear] by the Federal government planned Restrictions on the expansion of renewable energiesIn light of the sharply increased oil and gas prices and the urgently needed expansion of the networks, the ZVDH emphasizes: "The planned regulations not only jeopardize the energy transition, but also place an unnecessary burden on tenants and owners." Instead of slowing down the expansion, investments must be made in innovative technology, bureaucracy reduced, and planning certainty promoted.

More installed solar panels, especially on apartment buildings, are one way to advance the energy transition and achieve the necessary annual expansion of around 20 gigawatts of photovoltaic capacity. Much potential remains untapped in this area. The German Roofing Contractors Association (ZVDH) therefore emphasizes the advantages of a tenant electricity model to promote the local generation and use of solar power. "Many landlords would like to offer their tenants affordable PV electricity, but the bureaucratic and technical hurdles are too high for building owners and often not financially viable," says ZVDH Managing Director Ulrich Marx.

"We would like to see simple tenant electricity solutions," says Ulrich Marx, CEO of the German Roofing Contractors Association (ZVDH). His proposals include: "Simple, single-source billing, streamlining of tax obligations for landlords, promotion of smart meter technologies, and creating economic incentives for feed-in tariffs for rental properties." Tenant electricity reduces energy costs for tenants and simultaneously increases grid stability, according to the ZVDH. "Instead of slowing down expansion, we should create incentives so that more landlords and property owners invest in PV systems."

Accelerating grid expansion and introducing smart meters are also crucial measures that must be implemented swiftly. Without modern grids and intelligent metering systems, the energy transition cannot be achieved. Marx stated, "Politicians must finally set the course so that the expansion of renewable energies doesn't fail due to outdated infrastructure." Instead of accelerating expansion, obstacles are being erected that jeopardize the energy transition. "Especially in times of high oil and gas prices, we must utilize every opportunity to expand renewable energies – and that starts on our rooftops."
