Reform project: Bringing interests together, gaining clarity

Ahead of the meeting of the governing parties in Berlin, the leading associations of German industry are calling for measures that primarily address growth and competitiveness.

Ahead of the meeting between the coalition committee, employers, and unions in Berlin, German industry is hoping for consensus within the federal government on the upcoming reform plans . The meeting should be used as an opportunity to explore as much common ground as possible in key and sometimes highly controversial reform areas, according to leading German business associations.

Especially in view of the challenges of ensuring the future viability of social security systems, the labor market and business location conditions, it is important to bring together different interests, strengthen mutual understanding and identify common solutions.

Focus on growth and competitiveness

The range of topics defined by the coalition committee members before the meeting is broad enough for this purpose. "We will hold the debate on these individual topics on Wednesday. For us, the focus must clearly be on growth and competitiveness. In this sense, we have contributed constructively to the preparatory process," the associations emphasize. 

From their perspective, it would be a step forward if the meeting could lead to a shared understanding of the vision and political priorities, as well as clarity on the timeline for the upcoming reform projects. The associations are prepared to make their share of necessary compromises within the framework of a comprehensive package aimed at increasing competitiveness, growth, and employment.
